Research Interests

Dr. Mendoza's project is titled, “Retinal Structure Measured by Optical Coherence Tomography as a Biomarker of Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple System Atrophy.”

This work is to determine whether changes in the structure of the retina can be used as biomarker in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Dr. Mendoza will conduct a prospective observational longitudinal study using high definition optical coherence tomography (HD-OCT), and will compare the sensitivity/specificity of various HD-OCT segmentation analysis in detecting PD and MSA and monitoring disease progression.

This research will add to the knowledge of retinal abnormalities and their relationship to the early diagnosis and disease monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases such as PD and MSA.
