The New England Eye Center has complete facilities for management of all types of eye emergencies and ocular trauma, including those involving multiple injuries. The New England Eye Center is located at the Tufts Medical Center, which affords immediate access to other medical and surgical specialists. The Floating Hospital for Infants and Children and the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute are also located at the Medical Center, providing unique resources for management of pediatric eye injuries.
The New England Eye Center is a member of the National Eye Trauma System (NETS). There is 24-hour in-house coverage for evaluation of all eye emergency and trauma patients.
To refer an emergency or trauma patient:
Patients with eye trauma or emergencies (i.e. ruptured globe, intraocular foreign body, endophthalmitis) requiring immediate care can be transported by Boston Med Flight, a helicopter transport service that provides medical services in flight. A heliport is located immediately adjacent to Tufts Medical Center. Boston Med Flight serves all of Massachusetts (including the Cape and Islands), Rhode Island, southern New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
