Tufts Center for Vision Research
Tufts University has a long tradition of excellence
in clinical and laboratory-based eye and vision research. While
the major focus of vision research has been the Department of
Ophthalmology, a number of other departments also support vision
research as a subcomponent of their programs. Dramatic growth
in the vision research faculty over the past decade has resulted
in assembly of a large multidisciplinary group of investigators
with funding from the National Eye Institute (NEI), National Institutes
of Health. Research collaborations, group activities, and shared
resources have developed over this Period, fostered through the
New England Eye Center. In May of 2000, steps were taken to consolidate
the growing unification of vision research activities and shared
resources across departmental lines by establishment of the Tufts
Center for Vision Research (TCVR). The TCVR is supported by a
partnership agreement between the New England Eye Center and the
Tufts Medical Center/Tufts University, and comprises 31
faculty members from eight different Tufts University departments.
All Vision Research Laboratories faculty are also members of the
Tufts Center
for Vision Research.
