A group of ophthalmologists from the American Society of Retina Surgeons (ASRS) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) have identified a new syndrome which sometimes occurs after uncomplicated cataract surgery, and can result in devastating vision loss. HORV appears to be associated with a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to injections of intraocular vancomycin.

The task force made recommendations for the clinical management of HORV, as well as for considerations in the use of vancomycin following cataract surgery.
